Here’s an event which really inspires me. Women At Woodstock, the annual gathering in Woodstock, NY for women over 50 who are going after all the “zest” that life has to offer, is happening soon. I’ve attended this event several times and I can say that it’s truly an excellent way to step out of your day-to-day life, reset and rejuvenate your intentions and goals. (BTW the name “Woodstock” doesn’t imply that anyone necessarily went to the original legendary muddy, musical event! It’s just that we are of that generation. And women of our age want to learn and to bond.)
In addition to speakers, workshops, yoga, evening wine salons, and some delicious downtime, there’s something else that happens at these events; true, authentic networking of the first order. Friendships are made, sometimes business deals are forged, sometimes life-changing decisions are reached. Whatever it is, it’s magic. Check out this year’s event, happening October 28-30. And P.S., sign up soon; rooms are running out fast.
There’s also something new this year – two back-to-back writers’ retreats the week after Women At Woodstock. Ann Voorhees Baker, the founder of Women At Woodstock, was tired of seeing writers’ retreats that require an application process and then let you know if you “qualify” to work and get guidance on your writing, so she decided to host a Women At Woodstock Writers’ Retreat this fall. Her philosophy is: all writers – both aspiring and experienced – are invited to attend, not apply. “Everyone is qualified to work and learn,” she says.
The writers’ retreats will be held in two sessions: Mon., Oct. 31 through Thurs., Nov. 3 and Fri., Nov. 4 through Sun., Nov. 6 at the beautiful and secluded Lifebridge Sanctuary just outside Woodstock, NY. Each retreat includes a daily workshop, plenty of time to write, all meals and snacks, and evenings by the fire sharing a glass of wine and reading from the day’s writings. Resident writing coach Linda Lowen (About.com, NPR, Hopeful – Grateful – Strong) will be on site throughout and will meet one-on-one with each participant, and visiting authors Ginnah Howard (Night Navigation), Veronica James (Going Gypsy), and Laurie Stone (Starting With Serge) will share their experiences and expertise. If you have a novel, memoir, self-help book, essay collection, or even a blog that you’d like to improve, the Women At Woodstock Writers’ Retreat is a great place to get the coaching, guidance and help that you need.
Every participant is guaranteed an expedited submission of her work directly to the retreat’s sponsor, publishing house She Writes Press. You can attend one or both sessions. Click here for a video on the retreat: https://www.facebook.com/184127948354983/posts/878484445585993.
