• We all want to look and feel young forever. But, as the years pass, we begin to hear the dreaded words ‘arthritis’, ‘bone loss’, and the worst of them all, ‘menopause’. Fear not – you can still remain the Goddess that you are. You can age gracefully despite the negative connotations those words may imply. All it takes is some simple steps to shift prospective, and we can reclaim and keep our title. We can age gracefully and continue to feel vibrant, healthy and younger – no matter what label comes our way. Here are 6 steps to begin “living young” again, on the inside and out:

    1. You’ve got to move it, move it

    Think back to what activities you enjoyed as a child and bring them back into your life. Were you a dance student as a young girl? Find a community dance group or Zumba class, or just turn on your favorite tunes and dance in your living room. Did you like to hula hoop as a kid? Pick one up the next time you are at the store and make that a part of your daily exercise routine. What about the trampoline? Buy a mini version and bounce inside the house. Moving is the key to youthful living, and finding fun ways to move makes exercise less of a chore and more like play.

    2. Hydrate and have younger-looking skin

    Want your skin to look younger? Drink more water! The best rule of thumb is to take your body weight, divide it in half, and drink that number of ounces of water per day. It may be a challenge at first, but you will feel fuller faster, cleanse your body, and drop a few pounds- just by drinking more H2O. Add some freshly sliced cucumber, raspberries, or citrus slices for a little variety. Your body will thank you.

    3. Bounce your way back to better health

    Have you been diagnosed with degenerative discs? Those thinning cushions in between your bones are lacking water and motion. One easy way to improve disc health is to sit and gently bounce on a large exercise ball for 5-7 minutes a day. It’s fun and your discs will get pumped up with key nutrients they need. As an added bonus, you can improve flexibility and get pain relief too.

    4. Improve posture to look and feel years younger

    As we get older, we all start to stoop forward and round our backs a bit. Because of cell phones and computers, we are seeing poor posturebegin earlier than ever. To help us reset our bodies and improve our slouch, take just 4 minutes a day to stand up against a wall. With bare feet, place your heels, back, butt, shoulders, hands and head back against a wall and hold that position. This will help reset your body position and proprioception, training your brain to keep you standing tall. If you can’t do all 4 minutes at one time, break it up throughout the day. Most see an improvement in their energy levels and posture in a matter of weeks.

    5.  Believe and achieve

    So often our deep-seated beliefs and the stories we tell ourselves in regards to our bodies and our age sabotage us more than anything else. Did you grow up in a home where your loved ones were in pain? Did you grow up believing that pain was a natural result of growing old? When we have family with disease or chronic pain, often we believe, even on a subconscious level, that it is going to happen to us too. We have been taught to believe that it’s “in our genes”. But, new studies are proving that how we think becomes how we feel.

    Begin listening to your inner dialogue and what you tell yourself on a regular basis. Thoughts become things, so it is important to pay attention to what you are thinking about. When you notice a common theme, question your beliefs – Does it have to be true? Replace your negative thoughts with positive affirmations. What you believe, you can achieve.

    6. Get some ZZZZ’s and dream a little dream

    When we sleep, our body uses that time to repairand heal. Getting 8 hours of sleep every night is ideal. But before you call it a night, take a few minutes to “dream a little”. Instead of re-hashing the day you have had, or thinking about how much you have to do tomorrow, take a few quiet moments to picture how you desire your life to be. Imagine yourself healthy, happy and energetic. Imagine what that feels like, and go to bed with those thoughts in mind. The chance you have of living your dreams is equal to the belief you have in achieving them. Start dreaming tonight – even before you fall asleep.

    These are just a few of the ways to reclaim your inner Goddess. By making small steps in a new direction, you can completely change your course. As Bernard Shaw once said, “We don’t stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing.” Rekindle your inner youth and be joyous about the adventure you are on. It’s never too late to feel young again.
