• Diets don’t work. Instead, commit to a nutritional timing plan, where you’re making smart food choices throughout the day. Your body is designed to break down certain foods faster and other foods slower. Knowing how food is processed inside will help you understand what’s going on outside.

    Eat at a Slower Pace:

    This is a well-known adage, but it’s incredibly true. “The neuropeptide response in the brain takes some time to register a full stomach,” says Joey. “The slower you eat, the more time your brain will have to catch up with your stomach, and you’ll eat less. Commit to putting down your fork between bites, which will help slow your consumption. And wait at least 20 minutes before you go for a second helping.”

    Work out Before Chowing Down:

    Everybody tends to rationalize over-eating by saying they’ll work out after. “The best thing you can do for your body is to work out before you eat,” advises Joey. “Working out before a big plate of food will help your body absorb the nutrients much faster.”

    Eat Right at Night:

    Americans have a bad habit of eating too little in the morning and too much at night. “Rather than aim to not eat after 8:00 p.m., which can be nearly impossible, choose your evening meals carefully,” says Joey. “Lean protein and healthy fats slow the absorption of food into the blood, meaning your body will work overnight to break down the food…and burn calories.

    Order an Appetizer:

    The goal of eating should be to fuel your body and feel full, so make smart choices to achieve that goal. “Order a broth-based soup or drink a smoothie before dinner,” advises Joey. “Liquids will absorb quicker and make you feel fuller, so you don’t make bad decisions when it comes to the entrée.

    Eat Carbs for Breakfast:

    Good carbs and healthy fats in the morning will set you up for a day of calorie-burning, so don’t skimp. “If you don’t get enough fuel in the beginning of the day, chances are you’ll reach for an unhealthy snack,” warns Joey. “Carbs are fuel, so don’t be afraid of them, especially in the morning.”

    Don’t ever DIEt again. Just commit to timing your food intake in a way that maximizes your body’s ability to break down and process the nutrients you take in. It’s the best recipe for success.
