• Always review your plan rates, including co-pays and deductibles and any change in plan benefits. If you find significant changes, it is wise to shop and compare Medicare Advantage plans in your area. Or, if you have had significant changes in your healthcare, there might be a plan in your area that is now a better option.

Remember, if you call your insurance company, they can only tell you about their plan. If you call a Medicare insurance broker that offers a choice of plans and companies then they can compare plans and rates for you. The Medicare website also has a quoting tool you can use if you want to do it yourself.

Medicare insurance agents and companies can start talking about specific plan rates and benefits for 2015 beginning Oct. 1. So shop and compare early and make sure you’ve got the right Medicare plan.

Medicare annual enrollment period is your chance to switch Medicare plans for the coming year.   Once a year – between Oct. 15 and Dec. 7 – you have a chance to change from your current plan to a different plan

In the workplace, you probably faced making choices about your health care plans each year in the fall. That’s the time rates and plan benefits would change. The same is true for certain types of Medicare insurance plans.

Why choose a Medicare Advantage Plan?

    • You want the convenience of one plan and are comfortable with being limited to using services within a specified network.
    • You want lower insurance premiums and are willing to share the cost of services through copays and deductibles as you use services.
    • You currently participate in this type of health insurance plan through your employer and feel comfortable with using it for your Medicare benefits.

The Medicare open enrollment period – also referred to as the Medicare annual enrollment period (AEP) – impacts Medicare Advantage  and Medicare Part D drug plans. If you have one of these plans and want to change to a different plan, the Medicare AEP is the one time during the year when you can do that.  So do not miss the deadline!

If you have a Medicare supplement plan you can change any time during the year.

7 out of 10 of the most popular Part D plans will see double digit increases in the monthly premium for 2013.

As a designer and entrepreneur, products for women have always been my focus. In my first company DianneSullivan Designs, I designed and made fun jewelry for young women to buy in boutiques and department stores. That company transitioned into Miraflores Designs which designed and supplied custom designed soap, shampoo and other toiletries for hotel chains including Hyatt, Sheraton and many others. After selling that company, my next company, Bay Linens, Inc, designed decorative bedding which was sold through Bloomingdales, Bed, Bath & Beyond and other retailers. Our home decor products, with the brand, China Seas, was sold at Isetan Department stores in Japan. At this stage of life I'm connecting with other women over 50 who want to examine their interests and to connect with each other. At ZestNow.com I want to gather useful information and inspiration for this new phase of life.
